These preparation manuals are designed to help you prepare for the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program exam in the field in which you are seeking certification. Their purpose is to familiarize you with the competencies to be tested, exam question formats, and pertinent study resources. EPP staff may also find this information useful as they help their students prepare for careers as Texas educators.

Note: These preparation manuals are the only Texas Educator Certification Examination Program exam study materials endorsed by Texas Education Agency (TEA). Other preparation materials may not accurately reflect the content of the exam or the policies and procedures of the program.

Preparation Manuals may not be reproduced for commercial use but may be copied for educational purposes. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) would appreciate credit for the material used and a copy of the reprint.

The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) was published in May 2013 with revisions to the criteria, for the diagnosis and classifications of mental disorders. In the interest of fairness, and to allow time for educator preparation programs to integrate such changes into their curricula, test materials for specific assessments will continue to reference the terminology, criteria, and classifications referred to in the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR) until further notice.
