Purchasing Certification Exam Vouchers

An exam voucher consists of an 11-character alphanumeric code. During the registration process for an exam in the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program, an individual can enter the code to register for an exam without paying an additional fee. Beginning September 1, 2022, exam vouchers are available for purchase by Texas EPPs approved by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC).

• An Exam Voucher Purchase Request Form is available on the program website under "Purchasing Certification Exam Vouchers."
• Alternately, to receive an Exam Voucher Purchase Request Form directly, EPPs may send an email to estestvoucher@pearson.com and the form will be sent by email.
• Upon downloading or receiving the form, an EPP representative can complete and submit the form to Pearson via email at estestvoucher@pearson.com.
• A purchase order is required to process the voucher request.
• Indicate the number of vouchers to purchase and the individual voucher dollar amount requested.
• The voucher code(s) will be delivered in a Microsoft Excel file via email to the contact identified on the form as the "Requester".
• Regardless of who submits the form, it must be signed by the legal authority for that EPP.

Yes.

• Voucher pricing varies. The price of a voucher corresponds to the registration fee of the exam for which the voucher is intended. Registration fees specific to each exam are available on the program website.
• For example:
• An EPP purchases a $200 voucher and receives a voucher code. A candidate may use that specific voucher code to register for any exam for which the registration fee is $200 (such as 252 School Counselor or 253 Educational Diagnostician).
• An EPP purchases a $136 voucher and receives a voucher code. A candidate may use that specific voucher code to register for any exam for which the registration fee is $136 (such as 293 Science of Teaching Reading or 217 English Language Arts and Reading 4–8).
• NOTE: edTPA voucher prices are equal to the registration fee. EPPs will receive a discount equal to the amount that candidates receive as a rebate; this will be reflected in the invoice for the purchase order. There is no limit to the number of vouchers an EPP can purchase.

No. A voucher code covers the exam registration fee in advance, allowing a candidate to register for an exam without paying the exam fee. Exam registration fees have not been reduced.

No. The Texas.gov payment system does not permit partial payments. The candidate must register via voucher OR via standard payment.

During the registration process, there is an option on the payment screen for a candidate to enter a voucher code if they have one.

On the payment screen:

1. Select the "Enter a voucher" hyperlink.
   
2. Enter the voucher code and select "Apply".
   

• A voucher code purchased for exams covered under the Critical Shortage Area Exam Voucher Reimbursement Opportunity can be applied only to the specific exam for which it was purchased. These exams are listed in the Exam Voucher Purchase Request Form .
• For all other vouchers, a candidate can use a voucher code to register for any exam for which the registration fee is equal to the price paid for that voucher. If the value of the voucher code is not equal to the registration fee, it cannot be applied for registration.
• NOTE: edTPA voucher prices are equal to the registration fee. EPPs will receive a discount equal to the amount that candidates receive as a rebate; this will be reflected in the invoice for the purchase order. Yes. A voucher code is not associated with a specific individual or a specific EPP. Any candidate with a Pearson testing account can use a code to pay the registration fee for an exam, as long as the registration fee is equal to the value of the voucher. However, each voucher code can be used only once. If a candidate uses a code to register for an exam and later withdraws their registration, the voucher code they used is no longer valid for use a second time and is not eligible for refund.

A voucher code is valid for 12 months from the date the code is generated. Once a voucher is used to register for an exam, the candidate must test or submit a portfolio within the standard timeframe of 170 days.

• Vouchers that expire unused may not be replaced and are not eligible for refund or credit to the EPP. If a candidate uses a code and then withdraws, the code is not eligible for refund.
• For any code that has not expired and has not yet been used, Pearson can resend that same code upon request to the EPP if needed.
• EPPs with questions about replacing voucher codes can contact Pearson at texas.support@pearson.com.

Candidate registration status is reported in ResultsAnalyzer® within the Registration Reports data stream.

No. Certification exam vouchers are separate from practice exam vouchers and cannot be used to pay for a practice exam. Interactive practice exam codes are available for purchase by EPPs to provide candidates with full or partial credit toward fees for practice examinations. Information about purchasing vouchers for interactive practice exams is available on the program website.

• The Exam Voucher Purchase Request Form must be signed by the EPP legal authority. However, the voucher code(s) will be delivered to whichever contact is identified on the form as the EPP representative ("Requester") who should receive the code(s). This contact does not need to be the legal authority.
• Codes will be delivered in an Excel spreadsheet via email. The Excel spreadsheet will include each voucher code's purchase price, which represents the registration fee for which each code may be used.

EPPs will receive a discount equal to the amount that candidates receive as a rebate; this will be reflected in the invoice for the purchase order.
